Achieving Sustainable Urban Form

Abstract

The paper proposes revision of urban form based on high density development of cities. These adjustments are required due to the growing population of the world, the inability of old cities to continue expansion without major cost-effective and impractical infrastructure improvements, and the need for resource-friendly urban forms. The model offers an infrastructure framework for enabling easy integration and implementation of other sustainable forms such as green buildings and zero carbon footprints. Furthermore, the model provides a comprehensive solution for the current problematic distribution of high-density and high-rise environments that are destined to become vertical slums.
