Behavioural Habits of Age Groups: Exploring the Life Patterns of Urban Population in the Context of Age Structure Analysis
Abstract
The world, particularly in the developing countries, has recently experienced historical shifts in the driving forces of demographic changes and their effects on policy and development. Population transformation is increasingly dependent on structural changes, including age-structure transitions, geographical redistribution, urbanization, etc. Demographic trends understanding is essential to create a dynamic context for the functioning of cities, towns and metropolitan areas. The conceptual toolkit for improving the understanding of the relationship between urban forms and human behaviour needs to be developed in various research projects. This paper suggests that population age structures play an important role in explaining changes in the economic development of cities and regions, in addition to institutional, technological, political and cultural factors. The aim of the study was to analyze differences in demographic behaviour and the formation of urban population structures. The results show that older adults spend more time in areas with a lower level of safety, and activity patterns vary depending on the spatial and cultural context. Economic inequality in urban areas has a negative impact on access to basic resources and services mainly for older people. Factors such as access to resources, social isolation and physical restrictions have a significant impact on the experiences of individuals who are aging in cities. The study also concludes that housing and space policies should better reflect the demographic reality and lifestyle aspirations of an aging society.
