Theoretical and Cultural Intertextuality: The Urban Landscape as a Construct

Javen Levin

Abstract

The general assumption of this research is that urban landscapes are constructs, and theaters are plays, each with a saturated text of concepts, intentions, values and interests gathered to form a worldview. This study aims to present these worldview conceptions, as part of a broader cultural perception, by reading the plays in close proximity to the urban landscape of the studied period. The main research results represent Tel Aviv in terms of the spaces and ideas of cultural and philosophical landscape: here and now, the Garden of Eden, urban and rural instead, as well as urban mythologies. It offers a conceptual critique of Israel's 1960s city characteristics.
